Band Council asked to
rescind Confederacy’s
mandate

The evening began with th usual requests for letters of recognition from a few community groups, but when
item #7 on the 54th Band Council agenda came up Tuesday night, things suddenly got lively.

Lisa VanEvery, a Mohawk, presented a proposal that would see the Elected Band Council rescind Band Council Resolutions BCR #444 and BCR #577
which handed the lead role for the negotiation
of the former Douglas Creek Estates land to the Haudenosaunee.

In a well crafted proposition, VanEvery spelled out the reasons for her recommendation which included points relating to the lack of forward motion over the past 24 months at the table regarding the land
now referred to as Kanonhstaton. Also cited was the fact that the focus at the negotiation table has shifted away from the specific Kanonhstaton lands and
